  Summary

Don’t be put off by the river’s fearsome reputation: if you’re happy on grade III and you’ve got a solid roll then you’ll have a whale of a time! There’s no better way to learn the secrets of big-water paddling than from expert instruction from our world class paddlers

We’ll also tackle a raft-supported multi-day trip, exploring some of the less well known rapids in the lower Batoka gorge and living the true African experience. It’s not just paddling: we’ll check out the incredible Victoria Falls and we’ll take a trip to Botswana’s Chobe national park for the full safari experience. When you’ve seen a herd of 200 Elephants drinking at the river, a trip to the zoo will never be the same!

Great weather, great water and great times: come and explore the Zam with us

  Programme

Day 1 Arrive in Livingstone and head to the Taita Falcon lodge. Spend the afternoon exploring the bush with a local guide before a sundowner grill overlooking the river above Victoria falls

Day 2 Hit the water! We’ll warm up by running rapids #10-17 in a single hit and give you the chance to find your big water groove

Day 3 We’ll start the day early with a trip to bathe in the Devil’s armchair, a mind-blowing pool at the very lip of Victoria falls. After that we’ll make the full descent of rapids #1-17, looking at the specific techniques to use on big water

Day 4 to 7 The full trip! We’ll spend four days paddling down river with full raft support. After three nights under canvas we’ll come back for a night in Livingstone

Day 8 An early departure to Chobe National Park in Botswana, staying in a tented safari lodge

Day 9 Enjoy the safari in Chobe before returning to Livingstone, either for a quick blast down rapids #1-6 or a chilled out afternoon

Day 10 The only choice for your last full paddling day’s a full run of rapids #1-17. Now’s the chance to try some of the more challenging lines

Day 11 Departure day: time for a debrief and the chance to head home

Of course, this schedule’s only a guideline: we’ll chop and change depending on how you’re getting on, what the levels are like and what everyone wants to do
